Why is it so important to engage your business in eCommerce?

Online eVolution – eCommerce Revolution

Online shopping, was invented in the UK in 1979 by Michael Aldrich. With no broadband at that time things were very slow and the technology very expensive, hence early eCommerce was only viable for visionary corporates.

In 1990 Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (www.) and transformed an academic communication network into a worldwide everyday communication system and then it took about eight years to introduce security protocols and DSL allowing continual connection to the Internet.

Thirty years on in 2009 affordable home computers and broadband connection has brought the Internet to life and the global Internet Penetration Rate (PR) stands at around 25%, with North American PR 74% and European PR 52%.

Evolution in developed world shopping habits, both business to business (B2B) and business to consumer (B2C) have irrevocably changed and this pace of change is set to accelerate. We are living in an eCommerce Revolution where small business need sit on the side lines no more, we now have the power to compete.
